Implicit Bias Training for Michigan can be completed entirely online.
Michigan has a new requirement for implicit bias continuing education.
Beginning June 1, 2022 healthcare providers renewing licenses or registrations must complete one hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle.
What are the LARA Michigan requirements for Implicit Bias training?
Make sure your course meets the requirements for implicit bias training for nurses in Michigan. Courses must meet the Michigan requirements in the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Public Health Code Rules: R 338.7004.

Training content must include, but is not limited to, 1 or more of the following topics:
(i) Information on implicit bias, equitable access to health care, serving a diverse population, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and cultural sensitivity.
(ii) Strategies to remedy the negative impact of implicit bias by recognizing and understanding how it impacts perception, judgment, and actions that may result in inequitable decision making, failure to effectively communicate, and result in barriers and disparities in the access to and delivery of health care services.
(iii) The historical basis and present consequences of implicit biases based on an individual’s characteristics.
(iv) Discussion of current research on implicit bias in the access to and delivery of health care services.
Training must include strategies to reduce disparities in access to and delivery of health care services and the administration of pre- and post-test implicit bias assessments.
The department released a frequently asked questions document for implicit bias training, this includes clarification that trainings with prerecorded videos must also provide opportunities for interaction between participants and the instructor. Therefore, prerecorded videos without instructor interaction would not satisfy the implicit bias training standard.
