Implicit Bias Training for Healthcare Providers in Michigan

Nationally Accredited Implicit Bias Trainings that satisfy Michigan LARA Requirements

Asynchronous webinars added as a modality of training for implicit bias.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) released the final draft of the Public Health Code in 2023 to allow asynchronous teleconference or webinars as part of training for implicit bias standards.

The rule, R338.7001, was revised March 23, 2023 to allow for more ways for licensees to take the training.

Acceptable modalities of training include any of the following:

  • A teleconference or webinar that allows live synchronous interaction that provides for the opportunity for participants to interact with the instructor and other participants.
  • A live presentation that provides for the opportunity for participants to interact with the instructor and other participants.
  • An asynchronous teleconference or webinar. (new)

Renew Now CE offers both a 1 and 2 Hour Implicit Bias Training that are LARA compliant and include Asynchronous Webinars. Take the 2 hour course for $35: Link to Course

We separately offer implicit bias courses that include joint-accredited continuing education credit for ADA CERP, ACCME, ANCC, CDR, ASWB, ACPE, AAPA, APA and COPE.

Recent reviews of this course:

"Your course is very engaging and I quite enjoyed it. I took another online implicit bias course and it was very boring and I didn’t learn much." - Hend Abdul-Jauwad, MD, April 2023
"very informative course" - Ann, March 2023
"I enjoyed the training. It was well organized and to the point." Vickie, April 2023

What does it mean for you?

Implicit bias training is no longer required to be synchronous, live and include interaction. Licensees can now complete training to meet the implicit bias requirement for license application or renewal via on-demand, asynchronous webinars, or live sessions.

How many hours of implicit bias training are required in Michigan?

New applicants for licensure or registration are required to have completed 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration.

Renewing licensees and registrants are required to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle. However, for initial renewal after June 1, 2021, licensees will only need to have 1 hour for each year since the rule’s promulgation date of June 1, 2021. For example, if you are scheduled to renew your license in August of 2022, you would only be required to have 1 hour of training, even if the length of your license was 3 years.

Subsequent renewals will require 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of the license or registration cycle.
